There are many choices you can make as to who to go to for your eyecare. Should you go to an ophthalmologist (an eye surgeon), an optometrist (a vision specialist), or an optician (specialist in the styling, fitting, and fabrication of eyeglasses)? Should you go to a private practice, a retail chain, or a big box doc? 

As you probably know, you get what you pay for. 

While the big chains, the doc-in-a-box, and the heavy discounters may be appealing from a price standpoint, you may not get a long-lasting, quality pair of glasses. 

The time in the examination room may be minimized in order to get to the next patient.  You may not see the same staff (or even the doctor) each time you go.  When this happens you are unable to establish long-term relationships.  The service may seem a little impersonal as most of these establishments are part of a big chain whose ownership is typically out of state.  They don’t have the commitment to the community as does a private, independent practice.

Ophthalmologists are medical doctors, specializing in surgery and diseases of the eye.  For routine eye care, including the determination of eyeglass prescriptions, fitting of contact lenses, evaluating overall health of the eye, an optometrist is the provider of choice.  If you need surgery of the eye, an ophthalmologist  is who you need to see.  Except for emergency situations, optometrists are the first practitioners you should see.  If there is something that needs to be seen and treated by an M.D., optometrists will refer you to the appropriate healthcare provider.

As a native of Denver, I have strong roots in the area and have a desire to see it thrive and grow.  My patients are my neighbors and fellow members of the bigger community.  As such, I have a personal interest in seeing successful outcomes when fitting a new pair of contact lenses or getting you into the perfect frame.
